The Salvation Army
International Prayer Weekend Initiative |
THE FIGHT
CONTINUES
There is big transformation locally as well as globally.
Awareness is being raised at local levels such as work, school,
college or church. Groups have organised ‘stay-awake-athons’,
walk-athons, swim-athons and all sorts of creative fundraising
activities. Some groups have also conducted community meetings
and research to look at the problem of trafficking locally as
well as linking with local authorities to tackle the issue
head-on in their towns.
The Salvation Army is committed to raising awareness on this
topic, and evidence is seen in such events as the International
Prayer weekend initiative. In the UK, there has been the
formation of a national task force which is looking at care
provision for trafficking victims. There are diverse actions
taking place with with the formation of new coalitions such as
‘Stop the Traffik’ (www.stopthetraffick.org), which was formed
by Steve Chalke, not long after he was at ROOTS last year.
Partnership with coalitions and organisations like this is
crucial to a coordinated and large-scale effort to eradicate
trafficking for good.
We have been overwhelmed by the way in which you and your
friends have responded to the issue of human trafficking. The
funding, prayer and campaigning that you remain committed to
enables us to achieve so much more than we initially imagined
possible!
The unfortunate truth however, is that the problem is still a
reality in our world today. Continued commitment from you, our
partners in this campaign, is vital to ensure that the huge
list of new anti-trafficking projects, in Canada, in the UK, in
the USA, and around the world, get the resources they need.
If you want to know more about how you can get involved, follow
the various links on this website for further information.
